Can You Understand It! Team of Oxleas News
Oxleas’ learning disability editorial group, the ‘Can you
understand it? team was set up in 2009 and currently has 7
members representing Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich;
Chris, Dennis, James, John, Sarah C, Sarah L and Sunny.
They meet once a month and are supported by Oxleas’ staff,
Steve, Jessica and Sharon. They use an easy read checklist
to review information produced by staff and will make
recommendations to ensure the information is suitable for
people with learning disabilities.
Once a document has been approved by the Can you
understand it? team it gets uploaded on to the intranet. You
can see all the approved easy read documents by going to
the intranet/Documents and typing ‘easy read’ in the search
bar.
Every month we will be sharing with you what the team has
reviewed and what projects they are involved in.
Last month they approved a leaflet ‘Easy read information
about medicines’. This can be found on the intranet. They
have also been involved in writing a chapter for ‘Learning
Disability Today 5th Edition' and contributing to ‘Dignity in
healthcare for people with learning disabilities’ by the Royal
College of Nursing. They will also be visiting various nursing
teams in Oxleas to promote the ‘Bill of Rights’ following a
very confident presentation to the ALD Management Board
last month.
